SINA has refocused its efforts towards increasing employment opportunities for neighborhood residents and increasing the neighborhood’s median family income. As a catalyst for economic development in the southside neighborhoods of Hartford, SINA also helps refresh commercial corridors with streetscape and façade improvements that enhance the vibrancy of the community. For a comprehensive neighborhood renewal strategy to succeed, employment opportunities and a strong business sector are both essential.

In an effort to employ more south end residents, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has awarded a three-year, $320,000 grant to SINA to support a new program that matches south end residents with jobs available among SINA’s anchor institutions. The effort is known as the Walk to Work (WtW) program. SINA’s Career Navigator will manage a collective impact partnership comprised of the Center for Latino Progress, Our Piece of the Pie, Capitol Workforce Partners, Capital Region Education Council, Billings Forge, and Central Area Health Education Center. The partnership will help identify, train, and place workers in jobs at SINA member institutions.
