Build up yourself to build up your community!

The Hartford Leadership Academy (HLA) is a 10-week investment in you as a leader, to help you grow as a person and be better able to invest back in your community. During the academy, you will build strong relationships with other Hartford residents and be introduced to people making changes around the city. You will receive coaching sessions to help you pursue your next personal and professional goal. You will learn your leadership style, how to work with a team, map assets in the neighborhood, and work with a group of others to implement a project addressing an issue you are passionate about. The program finishes with a graduation ceremony. After the program graduates can apply for grants to carry out more community projects and participate in alumni events. The program is FREE and open to all Hartford residents.

What the class consists of:

  • 10 weekly classroom workshops
  • Class on Thursday nights from 5:30-8pmfrom late March to late May
  • One community project with a small group
  • One individual final presentation
  • One group reflection and presentation
  • Graduation

  3. Understanding How to Work with Local Government
  4. Building Winning Teams
  5. Using Planning to Create Change
  6. Acting on the Plan
  7. Leadership in Real Life: The alumni experience
  8. Public Speaking: Tips for effective communication
  9. Public Speaking Practicum
  10. Graduation and final presentation
