Amistad’s Journey to Freedom will provide opportunities to learn, discuss, and inspire us to work together to build and support the ideals of our country. The tall ship will be docked in the Riverfront Recapture as a backdrop for public events and be open for tours and educational opportunities FREE of charge.
The visit of the Amistad Ship to Hartford will pay honor to and acknowledge the resiliency and determination of the Mende captives during the 1839 Amistad Uprising. Discovering Amistad recognizes the significance of their fight for freedom, and its relevance to social and racial justice today, and in particular to the City of Hartford and Connecticut’s Old State House.
